The type of transmission fluid needed should be listed in your owner's manual.
The noise may be caused by your AC compressor beginning to fail. However since the compressor puts a heavy load on the belt drive system you'd want to check all belt-driven accessories and pulleys for wear.

Be sure to check fluid with the car level and according to the manufacturer's instructions as to fluid temperature and other conditions (trans in park or neutral, etc.). If there is a dipstick there may be marks for both cold and hot fluid.
