so my Ford flex will need a new intermediate steering shaft and it looks like the only place I can disconnect it is at the rack and pinion and the rest is non separable....but there is U-joints....can't I disassemble them with a U-joint tool? I really can't afford a new entire steering column unit....thanks

Well, if you took the whole thing apart, you'll find there are u-joints in there. But I don't know anybody who sells the stupid things. Before you take it all apart. I would try to access a part if you can't buy the part. There's no sense in taking it apart
