Scotty,
My wife has a 2011 Ford Fusion with the 2.5L with 135k miles. Over the last couple of years (apparently) it has developed a rough idle while in drive. If its in park or neutral it idles fine. I've cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body which seems to have helped slightly but it still isn't great. I thought maybe a motor mount is going out but I have no idea how to test that. Any ideas what it could be?
Thanks!
To check the motor mount but sometimes it's the torque converter inside the transmission wearing out if you put it neutral and it'll perfectly fine it's off and that and that's something you live with I even live with that in my 94 Celica when it shakes it idle I just put a neutral and then it runs smooth I'm not going to pull the transmission off and replace the torque converter
Thats what I was afraid of. Thanks for the input!
Definitely sounds like a transmission problem. Have you scanned it for any codes?
I haven't had it scanned yet. Its not throwing any codes currently. I guess I can call my local shop and see how good of a scan tool they have. They're pretty old school though so I'm not sure how up to date they keep their electronics lol
You could try one of the big chain auto parts stores, AutoZone, Advance, etc. They'll do it for free.
