Hey Scotty, I have a question about my 2011 Honda Ridgeline. I recently checked the transmission fluid and it looks like it needs to be changed since it’s pretty dirty. I know the owners manual recommends Honda Genuine Fluid z1 but is there an alternative that I could use that would be fine? Thanks.

Is Honda ATF really that expensive? You could google the brand behind the Honda ATF as it would be practically the same. But in this case... Better stick with OE to avoid potential issues.

I would stick with OEM fluid when it comes to transmissions:  not something I want to chance, especially since you are only doing the fluid change every 40,000-50,000 miles.  You might pay more, but peace of mind comes with it.

For Honda, stick to Honda fluids. As Scotty always says, only use Honda ATF for Honda cars.
