Hi Scotty! I’m a big fan. I got a 2011 Toyota RAV4 2.5L in May from a friend for $1,200. It’s been neglected all it’s life. I did a complete tune up. Runs great now. I changed the transmission fluid and filter with Toyota genuine fluid. Drain and filled 3 times. Afterwards there is a high pitched whine coming from the transmission. I know it’s the transmission because when I shipped it in neutral while driving it stops. It’s very loud between 20-40 MPH. Drove 1000 miles and did another transmission fluid and filter change with Toyota genuine fluid. drained and filled three times. Still makes the whine. Shifts up and down perfectly fine. No issues with transmission at all. Just the whine. The Toyota dealer said the transmission is going and to just drive it. Any ideas what the whine could be? Thanks for your info!
Their right its the transmission starting to go. Just baby it and you never know how long it could last. Torque converter and that helps the transmission pick up to speed with the engine when it shifts and when they start to go out they make noise and its because the start to seperate from the mating plate and short of a transmission rebuild or a new trans there not much to be done.
@jacksonishere
Thank you for your input. I am babying it. I will plan to have it rebuilt when it goes. I really like the vehicle.
Cool just be SURE if you have it rebuilt that its someone that ONLY rebuilds transmission and gives you some kind of warranty because Scotty has warned many people about there being shotty people who claim to rebuild them and will do a crap job and you'll pay all that money for nothing and be right back at square one so be very careful who you have and I would even look for junk yard transmissions because you might be able to find a car that had a blown motor but the trans is still working fine. A lot of pros will do that to save money and not have to worry about a rebuild! GL to ya!
