2011 Sienna with 104k miles. This has happened to me twice now. Both times I was driving on the highway going up a medium/steep sized hill. The in vehicle display is telling me to check VSC system. The Check engine light flashes, and traction control light illuminates. Along with the warnings lights, the engine starts running poorly. Misfires. Feels like the air/fuel ratio is off.
I keep a Cheap scan tool in the car, and ran the codes right after this happened. Nothing except a pending code for a misfire(misfire was obvious).
I turned the car off and back on and everything is back to normal. I drove another 400-500 miles and all is well. Since this has happened twice now and the last time was in a very bad spot with no where to safely pull over, id like to figure this out. Everything i can find seems to point to an 02 sensor(upstream?) But without a code for it I have no idea. Thanks in advance for any wisdom!
Well if it misfires that automatically shuts off the vehicle speed control. So you have to figure out why it's misfiring and there are literally dozens of things that can make it misfire. Rarely. Is it an oxygen sensor. Normally the sensor is just report a problem and don't cause it
It only misfires when all the codes are illuminated. Once I shut the car off and back on all the lights were gone and it ran perfectly fine for another 500 miles. No longer any pending misfire codes.or misfires that I felt.
But it was certainly misfiring and running very rough when the lights were lit up.
