Scotty, we've a 2011 Chevy Traverse & the manual calls for oil change every 3,000-3,500 miles or like 3ish months. I use synthetic oil in all my other vehicles, 04 Grand Cherokee, 08 Tacoma, 08 Corvette so I just started using synthetic in the Traverse before reading up on it. We inherited the Traverse so 1st thing I did was change all the fluids as it had over 100k on it plus it sat for about 9 months. I just figured synthetic was fine then I decide to research it, yeah I know, should of read up on it beforehand. Anyways I wondered if I should go back to regular oil but I've got to admit I prefer changing my oil less often. I know its no big deal to change oil & each vehicle takes maybe 15 minutes each other than the Corvette and that's only because I have to jack it up otherwise I can fit under the others. So is it okay to just go use synthetic oil even if it calls for conventional oil ??? And quite honestly I've never really checked into further details on what my other vehicles oil recommendations are. I do use the proper weight of course & use a middle grade oil filter, not supposedly the best but not the basic, a middle grade filter if you will. I do use the filter & oil recommended for the Corvette which is all Mobile 1 oil & filter. Years back I was a loyal fan of Pennzoil PZL or maybe it was PZ7, I don't 100% recall as its been years since they've made that particular one, oil as that's what my dad used & was always happy but that was years ago. I try to stick with Pennzoil regardless whenever possible as its what I've always used in my 1988 Toyota pickup with 286,000 miles on it. Toyota had performed basically a lower 1/2 engine overhaul because of some certain part, I don't recall the part but at the time it had approx 200,000 on it & Toyota told me the inside of the motor, from what they saw looked pretty much perfect & keep doing whatever I was doing. So I'm a fan of Pennzoil. In addition to the use of synthetic oil instead of conventional oil is there a certain brand of oil and oil filter you would recommend ???? Other than the Mobil 1 for my vette I 99% of the time use Fram. I've heard STP makes a good filter & that's what I'll grab if Fram is not available.
