Hello Car Family. About a month ago, I recently purchased a new, shipped from Japan, 2023 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition AWD. I currently have 719 miles on it and was curious when to conduct my first oil change? The manual recommends 7,500 miles, but I’ve heard it’s best to change it at 5,000 miles or change it at 1,000 miles for the first and every 5,000 miles moving forward. For context, I live in Los Angeles County with heavy traffic and a lot of stop and gos and don’t usually drive on the freeways or hills. Would it be best to change the oil at 6,000 miles? Thank you.

5,000 ... 7,000 ... for one oil change it's not a huge difference. splitting hairs.

Intervals depend on your type of driving.

If you want to be safe then just do 5k. See our FAQ for details.

Thank you for the response. Right now I’m at 820 miles and taking this time to study and learn how to change my own engine oil and oil filter and doesn’t seem to difficult actually. But yes I’m thinking of changing it at 5,000-6,000 miles.

You could change the engine-oil every day without harming the engine (but it would cost quite a bit).

Longer intervals are gradually more worse; every 5000 miles will be good enough.

Lol didn’t know that thank you for the response. I’m learning how to do it on my own as I’ve heard stories of shady mechanical work or faulty work. I think it would be best if I do my own changes.
