Hello community/scotty.
first time poster here.
I'm looking at a 2012 accura tsx tomorrow.
Neighbour is original owner. Car is well taken care of to my knowledge.
160,000 km. $17k CDN.
I will be asking about service records etc tomorrow.
My questions are.
1. Anyone know anything about the power steering rack failures? Is it an inevitable failure? Repair cost?
2. car has great reviews. I don’t know much about that engine or that car specifically. Is like any Honda that will potentially last 500,000km?
im looking to replace my wife’s 01 civic with 400k (our son will be taking this one over) and want something that has comparable longevity.
thanks for any info you have to offer.
finding a used car in this market has been a challenge.
I’m looking for something that’ll last 30 years like my old civic.
That's an unrealistic expectation. You cannot count on any car to last 30 years, especially anything made these days due to compromises made to meet regulatory requirements and the complex electronic systems that will break down over time. However I would go with a new Corolla over a 12-year-old Acura if you want a shot at the best life expectancy.
Thanks Scotty.
Looked over the car. Turns out that it’s the v6 engine. Timing belt has not been done.
Not looking to buy a can of worms.
Glad to have your opinions when making these decisions.
See you on YouTube.
Comment of the year
Well, it's potluck with the steering a few we have problems. It's not extremely outrageous. They are pretty well made vehicles. There's no arguing that you want the guy's records though how he maintained it cuz you do have to maintain them. They are pretty complex vehicles. And if it does have a V6 engine in it, you're going to have to change the timing belt soon if it hasn't been changed as they have interference engines
Thank you Scotty.
I hadn’t even thought of belt vs chain. It’s easy to overlook the obvious in these situations.
Regarding my original post, I’m confident that many Hondas will last 500,000 kms. Can I expect the same longevity from the accura line of cars?
I’m hoping it’ll be a I4. I’m looking for a gas miser. Test drive a new Corolla recently but this offer popped up.
Any thoughts on the new Corolla? New engine?
I’m looking for something that’ll last 30 years like my old civic. The cost difference between this car ~17k vs new Corolla ~25k isn’t that much.
PS. Love your content on YouTube.
