Hi Scotty,
I'm in a bit of a pickle. I've been yearning for an 11 or 12 Avalon for the past two years. But have avoided taken any steps to purchase one. However, I just came across a newly traded 12 Limited with 59 K. One owner elderly bought at same dealership new. They are asking almost 18 K though. It seems pricy for a nearly 12 year old vehicle. I have an 07 Marquis with 95 K. Well -maintained and runs like a top. Scott, what do you think? Would you pay 18 K? I'm thinking off offering them 14 or 15 K. Have Carfax. No accidents. Thanks, Joe

That sounds insane for a 12-year-old vehicle. Another stealership earns its name.

Not necessarily. There could have been accidents not reported to Carfax. Happens all the time.
I checked on Edumuds and KBB and trade in is 8500 to 9 K. CARMAX offered 12 K. I figure retail it's worth around 10 K maybe in this economy. Maybe 7-8 precovid
Age will depreciate a car even if the mileage is low. Take for example Scotty's wife's Lexus: he got it for 3k despite low mileage (60k) because it was older. Check sites like kbb. also compare the msrp when it was new to the price their offering. Definitely don't pay the 18k they're asking. if you can get it to like under 15k then maybe consider it. Screw it, low-ball the heck out of them. At least it's a dealer and they're not just gonna just go bye bye like a private seller.
That Marquis will continue to serve you a long long time if you decide to keep it . Avalon will give you better gas mileage for sure though.
