While I was on deployment my wife bought a 2012 Chevy Impala xle from a used car dealership. It has 154,000 miles and a 3.6 L SIDI Doch. She paid 10,500. I know you are not a fan of Chevrolet but can you give me some outlook on what kind of problems I'm looking at when I return home?

sounds like high time to get rid of it.... before it becomes a total money pit
Baby the transmission, and dont be shocked with some electrical issues (no pun intended, okay maybe alittle). I think impalas from a few years prior were notorious for having issue with something under the dash in the HVAC system, it'll create a rapid thumbing noise, not sure if the 2012's have that or not.
Do oil & coolant changes frequently. Unfortunately she overpaid but they can go for a bit with proper care. Did a mechanic check it out atleast?
I've heard complaints about the power steering pump going but I'm not sure if it was for that year
