2012 Honda Accord Transmission Fluid Change

Topic starter

I have a 2012 Honda Accord with 73,500 miles. I don't think the automatic transmission fluid has ever been changed. The car runs perfectly fine and I have performed engine oil change and other regular maintenance up to date. Is it okay for me to change transmission oil? Will it cause any issues?

If the transmission isn't falling apart and shifting fine for you, then I would keep up on the maintenance and change the fluid. Drain, fill, and replace filter if any.  From that point onward make sure you are on top of your transmission fluid change intervals. This gets neglected a lot on cars!

Also, see this excellent ATF stickey for reference:

It's not just ok, it's an important part of regular maintenance. Of course you should do it.

Well, Scotty says in his videos to not do it if the car has high mileage (~100K to 150K he says in the video), and it has never been changed. I'm wondering if 73K miles too many.

is 73 between 100 and 150?

No need to be condescending, bro. In the video he said "high" and gave an example of 100 to 150. Owner's manual says it needs to be changed every 30K and this vehicle has gone 73K. So it is "high" relative to 30K. I was just wondering. Thanks for the help.

some manufacturers (including Honda) recommend replacing AT fluid at 90k, 100k, and more.
73k is not "high mileage".

Thanks!

Thanks!
