2012 Kia Optima EX Turbo 2.0 Starts By Itself At All Hours

No one can tell me why my 2012 Kia Optima EX Turbo 2.0starts itself whenever it wants to.  Sometimes it happens at 3:00 a.m.  Or any time.  It has a dual exhaust system, so it is loud enough to wake me up.  It happens at grocery stores, and recently at a federal courthouse a U.S. Marshal approached me to say my car was running outside parked in front of the courthouse.  Been going on for several years.

I tried putting fobs inside lined pouches to prevent signal transmissions.  Didn't work.  Car obviously has a self-starter, but I have no idea how to use it.  Don't think it works.  Probably needs to be reprogrammed.  Dealer wanted a fortune to reprogram.

They said they couldn't figure it out, but noted there was some packrat wire damage.  I just pop off the battery cable now, which is a pain.

Anyone have this problem?  Former owner told me it has some kind of low battery sensor that automatically starts the car to charge the battery.  No one I know ever heard of such a thing.  Could he be correct?

Thank you.  Love your videos!

  • Well unfortunately you're probably needs to be reprogrammed. That or someone in your neighborhood might have a wireless device that happens to be in the same frequency and keep starting your car. Electromagnetic interference can do strange things

Appreciate the response.  I guess I will bite the bullet and have fob reprogrammed.   Thank you.  Watch your videos almost daily and forwarded your channel to my GF.
