Hello Mr. Scotty, i have recently bought a 2012 mini cooper s r56, with the 1.6 turbo engine, the previous owner said that it was burning oil, i took the engine out and redone the piston rings and the valve seals, and after that it smoked even more, what could be my failer in this car.
My mom used to say, "Want some extra excitement, some trouble in your life?… Get yourself a piglet!" It’s true, … getting a perfectly sound Mini is a gamble. Getting a someone else’s troubled Mini it’s a sure bet.
Anyway, … check turbo. If oil gets past the seal, … instant smoke screen.
The smoke gets bad after it gets hot
Crankcase pressure builds up and not relieved? Hard to guess. Blow by somewhere. Turbo drain blocked partially by carbonized oil, … pressure builds up, blows past the seals? Dunno, … just guessing.
F.S.
I bet on the supercharger needing rebuilt. Previous owner knew problem and sold a dead pig in a poke. But maybe not.
Do a wet/dry compression test, and then you will get an idea if the rings are sealing and/or the valve guides are leaking. If they both check out, then you can check the turbo, etc.
Did you hone the cylinder walls ?
Yes

Do not double post. Please and thank you!
Well if you going to fix an engine that's a totally rebuild Pistons valves valve seals the whole shebang now if you rebuild an engine they will smoke for a while but if it is still smoking 3-4 weeks after you rebuild it and drove it then it does have an interior problem though you may find after so many weeks it will stop smoking everything is coated in oil and crud when you rebuild them you never know but like I say you have to rebuild the entirely not just piecemeal if you want them to run right
Sorry, but those mini coopers are rolling pieces of crap. The engines have a habit of puking their guts onto the road. And the engine design is evil. Run while you can.
But fun to drive {black}:laughingoutloud:
Scotty: Well those Minis are not great cars they are not absolute piles of junk like a Fiat 500 jhssj they are definetly a lot better than those they are OK and they go for so little in the real worl-
Joe: By the way those Minis are rolling, sorry, stationary, hunks of junk that stupid BMW fake thing I HATE it!
@jimz
super fun if it's not your car, and you're not shoehorned into the crevice they call a back seat.
Didn't say miles but doesn't that little funny looking thing on top of the motor need rebuilding sometimes?
Now your getting picky. It is like a pretty woman being fun until they aren't. Sometimes you must pay more for the fun than others.
it's funny how right you are. The mini cooper is like that crazy, sensational, high maintenance, blonde.
- Super fun for a few weeks until you find all the baggage in the trunk
- requires constant input of all your money
- one day just blows up on you
- leaves you broke and stranded
