Hi Scotty. I know you're not a huge fan of Nissan, but my family has had a lot of luck with them in the past (even allowing my parents to walk away from a 70mph crash when they got T-boned). I just picked up a 2012 Altima for my step-daughter with 103k miles, single owner. It looks and drives great aside from a few expected wear and tear items that needed to be fixed. I dropped the pan for the tranny fluid, replaced the filter and then did another drain and fill to hopefully get 75-80% new fluid and also replaced the spark plugs and a few other things that needed to be replaced. That all said, in your opinion, do you think it'll survive her high school career? I'm hoping it'll last for another 70-80k miles at a minimum. What are your thoughts?
I’m not Scotty, but I do regularly drive a 2008 Altima. It now has 185,000 and it drives fine with very little maintenance. In the past few years we’ve just done oil changes, some rear pads and an air filter. If she doesn’t wreck the car I’m sure it will be fine mechanically. Any car will last if you drive them like your average senior citizen.
Have a fine day!
I don't think it will last for a teenager.
@yaser, I guess one thing to note is so far she drives like a grandma. Where we live you can get a school permit at 14. And last night she and I ran to the grocery store and I had to coach her to take turns with some speed. I was trying to teach her that although being cautious is fine, but going too slow can be dangerous as well.
