- My brake line got burnt from what I think is called a aluminum heat shield that was leaning on it but no problems that I know of, I fixed aluminum heat shield, and seen that the brake line was actually some sorta flex metal under plastic coating ,so I figured the plastic that cover metal line was to protect from salt ,so i put flex tape over it looks fine but my question is , is that plastic just elements protection?

Yea kinda, but if the line got burnt it could now have a weak spot which could bubble and burst possibly as the brakes are used. I woukd plan on replacing the line.
