I am considering buying a used 2012 Subaru Tribeca from a private party for $8750. 103k miles, 3 owners and very well maintained and in good-excellent condition inside and out. CarFax service records show oil changed every 5k - 10k miles. No accidents or notable incidents.
I have driven the car and noted no issues. A visual inspection there are no leaks etc. 6 cylinder engine. Tires, brakes and rotors done 4 months ago. Car was purchased for a college age daughter but she wants something different. Not a cool enough car for college.
A Subaru dealer will be doing a full inspection of the car for me. I have heard conflicting information about the reliability of this model (Tribeca). Both from service managers and other individuals. I am aware the first couple of years (2008-09) for the Tribeca were rough but cannot find any hard data reliability etc. to give a clear picture re: model year 2012.
a) What has been your experience with this Subaru model (if any).
b) Have you heard any info that can help me make an informed decision?
c) Any other thoughts or comments?
Thank you in advance for your time.

I’m with @kp. Not Subaru’s best effort. To adapt a saying about BMW: “the best Subaru is a little Subaru”.

I would pass. Subaru didn't sell that many of these vehicles. Finding parts for this vehicle could be a problem.

6 cylinder engine
Per Scotty, never buy a Subaru with a six-cylinder engine.
