Hi,
I have a 2012 Toyota venza with 174000 miles on it. It's a 4 cylinder automatic transmission. It was misfiring at about 60mph and found the spark plug specifically in cylinder 1 to be bad. I changed all the spark plugs and had the compression checked. Cylinder 1 had a lower pressure of 105 PSI. My mechanic did a leak down test and said that he would have to go in further to see what the problem may actually be. He said I could potentially need to replace the entire engine. The engine used runs about $3000 and this is not including labor to replace. My question is do I invest in this vehicle and replace the engine if needed or by another used car instead? Also, is there a way to have the compression return without necessarily needing to go into the lower part of the engine itself? I haven't had the mechanic work on the engine yet. After the spark plugs replaced the engine is no longer misfiring.
you said #1 was lower pressure 105 what did the others cylinders have ? since I don't know the gauge I'm more app to compare the readings on all cylinders if the others were 115 to 118 that's acceptable range did it still misfire after plug change? was there any codes? did you swap coil one to two and see if miss followed coil ?
WOW just reread the question no misfire after plug change just keep driving 😀 I don't think there is need for a motor job
What was the reading in all the cylinders? Can't just test one cylinder and call it a bad motor.
