Hello, I have a 2012 Volkswagen jetta 2.5l. I had a check engine light, checked it with a scanner. It gave a map sensor code. Did a little research and found out that when the pvc valve goes bad, oil gets into where the map sensor is cause it to trip the code. So I replaced the pvc valve and the MAP sensor. While I had it apart I changed the spark plugs. I had heck of time since two of the five boots ripped off in the head. After some cuss words I was able to change em all. Now this car barely runs and smells like sulfur bad.. I double check that I reconnected all hoses and wires properly. Car has 120,000 the EPC light is on and check engine lights flashes haha. What I figured was a simple job turned nightmare. Thanks for any tips and to what it may be. Also I did not replace the two coils that ripped the boot since it was late sunday night.
What’s the code now?
Haven't had it scanned yet..
Welp. That's an oof. ESC is VW's way of saying Electronic Power Control warning light problems. You better pray that you didn't blow up your cat. Silver smells or rotten eggs typically are smelled when the cat is gone. There are others but sadly they are not likely... Since problems occured after the repair.
Here's my thoughts. Sparkplugs on VW are finick-y AF. Got to make sure they are properly gapped or can throw all sorts of codes. Also torque down properly. Then with the coil packs. You ripped the boot off of two of em? Those for sure need replacement. Ripped boots have been known to cause spark-arking and can cause misfires among other... also while your there, make sure there are no rips in the wiring. Even if you can't see it you can test with a volt meter. Just to make sure you have all bases handled. Good luck.
