Scotty,

I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze, manual transmission, 146000 miles. The clutch pedal stuck in the down position down at the floorboard.

Dealer is saying it's the master slave cylinder and the transmission needs to be dropped to make the repair. An estimated cost of approximately $500 for parts, $1700 for labor. Does this sound like it is the master slave cylinder.

There's a master cylinder and a slave cylinder but there is no such thing as a "master slave" cylinder. Do both need to be replaced?

Since they are talking about dropping the transmission to get at it, presumably it's the slave cylinder and it is internal to the clutch. Pictures of the part at rockauto.com confirm the slave cylinder is internal:

(You didn't say whether yours is the 1.4 turbo or the 1.8 engine, but both use the same clutch design.)

Dealerships tend to be a ripoff. Note that the rockauto.com price for the "GM Genuine" part is under $170.

Take it to a good independent mechanic for a better price on the job.
