2013 Ford Explorer, 105,000 miles, with a 6F50 transmission that started to shudder. I used shudder fixx and it stopped. I saw the "Save Your Transmission for Less Than $10.00." I have also seen that Scotty does not recommend draining and replacing fluid in high-mileage transmissions when the fluid was not regularly replaced. Question 1: Is 105K a high-mileage transmission? Question 2: can I drain the transmission, then add some of the dirty fluid back along with a quart or two of new fluid, and repeat, slowly diluting the old fluid with newer?
transmission that started to shudder.
why do you think it's the transmission?
can I drain the transmission
I think you're fine to change the fluid provided you use the correct fluid, and follow the service manual directions to the letter. However, I have doubts that a fluid change will fix shudder. That's usually valve body or torque converter issue. Fluid doesn't magically fix it.
There are a lot of variables. Detailed information on changing transmission fluid can be found in the FAQ.
