Hey Scotty,
I live in Rhode Island and have a 2013 Scion TC with 183,000 miles. I travel to Massachusetts for work so I have mostly highway mileage. I bought the car from Toyota of Wellesley in 2015 with 9,000 miles. I've kept up with all the maintenance at the dealership every 5,000 miles for the life of the car. However I can't remember if I've changed the transmission fluid. My car has been serviced at Balise Toyota of Warwick and Toyota of Nashua. Just recently I noticed the transmission slip while I was in traffic on the highway. Since then it's been fine. I don't want to do a transmission flush at this point but I was wondering if I should have the transmissions fluid changed? I'm going to ask for service records from both dealerships however I really don't think they have records for everything. Also if you plan on being in the area again I wouls love to bring the car by.
It sounds like you had the engine oil and filter changed but you have no idea about the transmission between 9000 and 183,000 miles. That's almost 175,000 miles ostensibly without a service. If the dealer can't show you transmission fluid and filter changes, you have to assume it wasn't done. With it starting to slip, you can keep it topped up with fluid or change it out and hope for the best. What is the color and level of the fluid now?
You can change it as a preventive maintenance for the peace of mind. Perhaps they just charged it but hadn't done the job.
Also if you plan on being in the area again I wouls love to bring the car by.
Scotty will be up there again. To set up an appointment with him see under FAQ:
