i have a clanking sound coming from the steering column when i
hit bumps, can't figure out where it is coming from

Well unfortunately some of those had problems with the column assembly, the middle part wearing out and clunking. It's a very expensive repair. Have a mechanic check it out to see if it is physically worn on those universal joints that are in the middle of the shaft
