Stick with the OEM battery capacity or higher.

I think OP is saying his measured CCA is lower than initially, so now measures 535 CCA instead of closer to 700 CCA. He is wondering how low it can read before having to change the battery.

It was hard to tell, the post was a bit sketchy but looking at it again I think you're right. If that's the case the battery needs to replaced ASAP with a new one with at least 700 CCA capacity.

yes thx man from costco 700 orginal cca . 4.5 years old. now 535 cca live in NJ still cranking fine. waiting for winter. wait for 400cca or 450cca? to replace when i add distill water . last month . cca goes up little 535. b4 was 500 around

If you absolutely want to know if your battery is still good or not, you would need to test it with a Carbon Pile Tester which actually places a more realistic load on your battery then the standard Battery Testers.  It the voltage drops so low from the heavy load placed on it that it goes below a certain value, then you have to replace your battery.

got a blue drive 100$

That's tricky to characterize, because starter motor current initially spikes really high and then tapers off.

You cannot match this number directly to a battery CCA specification, because this rating refers to the amount of current (Amps) that a battery can sustain for 30 seconds. The peak current a battery can deliver is actually much higher.

I would personally keep using it until the first signs of problem (slow crank). But I think I'm a more adventurous individual than most people 😉

The battery in my 2.5L Camry is over 5 years old with a claimed CCA of 575 with no issues so far. Unless a problem arises, I won't be replacing it either. Also have 2 other car batteries that are 6 and 7 years old respectively. Admire the 'adventurous' attitude, perhaps it's just means you're 'thrifty'. Good video!

I always have basic tools on hand. If I have to I can jump start, or I'll grab a friend, or bus or cab and get battery. Not a big deal. They take 5 minutes to change out. 🤷‍♂️
Usually they give you signs before totally stranding you though. In my experience batteries can go 8 years.

I recommend you do not take this approach. A healthy battery is a required not just to start a car, but for the car to run properly. Choose a battery with a higher claimed CCAs, not lower.

It’s getting close to 5 years and if the battery tester says to ‘Replace Battery’ for peace of mind I would just change it.

.

Make sure you have a portable battery jumper in your car if you continue to drive around with that battery. But, at close to 5 years you could be pushing your luck.  Most batteries don’t last that long anymore.

thx

I highly recommend changing it. For my BMW, I tried to nurse a battery to health. Taking it in and out of the car, trickle charging it to try to squeeze more life out of it. I ended up needing to change it.

It's almost 5 years. That is the lifespan for most batteries these days.

I get my batteries at Costco too.

120$ now. in costco. last year 100$ . i dont save any more. for keeping my battery for a year. inflation. bought it march 2019 only 80$
