Mazda CX-30 TCU activation at home?

Hi all,

Is it possible for me to perform an activation of my 2021 CX-30’s TCU? The original owner denied the Mazda connected devices (remote start via phone app, etc) so the TCU went into deactivation mode. This was confirmed by Mazda support. I am trying to avoid going to the dealership if I can do this myself, although my understanding is that they use their speciality equipment to interface with the TCU/their internal systems.

How would you expect to connect to Mazda's cloud services without going through Mazda?

My understanding is that this is likely just a hardware state thing, so I thought it could be possible for me to d this myself. I can initiate the enrollment of the connected services through the app, it's just that my car never receives the confirmation code because the TCU is in a deactivated state. If I could reactivate it myself, it would probably work fine. I went into the diagnostic menu on the car and I can see that the TCU has an active phone number (confirmed by hopping onto the Verizon website) as well as a valid MEID. Wasn't sure if there was a way to do this on my own, tool I could purchase, etc. But maybe they have to activate it within their internal system, too, Idk. Regardless, I would rather not spend $200-$400 on a going to the dealership to activate a feature that should have already come with the car haha

You want to know how to activate a device's MEID without the activation fee, lol.

Nope, haha. The TCU already has an active MEID and phone number, I checked those in the car’s diagnostic menu and then I checked online to see if the MEID is active and if the phone number is still in service, which it is.

I’m trying to get the module itself to switch from its internal deactivation/standby mode, not to get it to be activated on the cell network, if that makes sense. Anyway, looks like I’ll just have to take it to the dealership, I think they use MDARS to do this internally.

I simply don't know how to do what your asking. A short visit to a local independent wireless dealer (CMDA reseller) could be informative. (My personal Verizon reseller is a car buff - have no doubt he would know)

Perhaps someone else here can provide more insight.
