How do I fix poor acceleration

Topic starter

Just brought a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze LS 1.8 Automatic 140,000 Miles from a private seller and this car has acceleration issues. Intially when I brought the check engine light was on due to the bad thermostat which I had just replaced which in turn caused the engine light to go away but the car still had acceleration issues. Car can drive still and hit top speed but takes like 1-2 seconds to do so. I've recently been surfing for solutions and possible fixes so I did buy ignition coil , air filter and 4 spark plugs to solve it , I haven't yet did the job just wondering what else could the issue be ?

It could be a worn-out engine, the Cruze is not known for longevity. Hopefully it is not that.

How old is the fuel filter? A clogged fuel filter can have that effect.

You might consider cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor.

Thanks brotha , I just changed the air filter , spark plugs and ignition coil testing driving it tomorrow monring wish me luck ! , and oh boy I hope what you said is a job I can do at home lol and not a mechanic for sure , im broke and trying to save money. And I have no idea , just brought the car a week ago , ill have to watch some videos to figure that out

Don't neglect the fuel filter, I've seen them get so badly clogged they'll stop a car dead in its tracks. Looks like it's located underneath on your car.

Thanks again , defintely going to take a look at the fuel filter and replace if needed and clean also if needed
