I’ve recently started noticing an issue with my 2014 Equinox 2.4L fwd, that’s sounds awfully loud when I start the car up, even idling, and while accelerating. I also notice at lower speed (below 40 mph) it feels like it hiccups when I think its switching gears. car has about 138,000 miles on it.
also recently I got a code P0420: catalyst system low efficiency. Could the code and the rough/loud from the exhaust, the hiccups when switching gears all be related? My first guess was to try some of fuel cleaner on the next fillup.

Check for exhaust leaks. They're a common cause of the P0420 code. Fuel system cleaner won't help.

You have a hole in your exhaust system.
