My mom bought a 2014 Chevy equinox with the 2.4L engine.
I would like to know how crappy of a car this is. She bought it without telling me, and I wanna see what I need to look for on common problems.
I changed the oil and only 1.5 quarts came out so I’m guessing the thing burns oil, as it was at its 5k mile change. so that’s rough.

Oof.  About the only good thing you can say is that it isn’t a 2013 (which is worse...)

And yes, oil consumption is indeed a MAJOR issue with that car.  And if the previous owner wasn’t paying attention (hint: they weren’t) the low oil could have done who-knows-what damage.

But, ok, it’s hers now.  So now what do you do?  Obviously check the oil weekly and change it regularly (along with the filter).  Check the condition of the plugs.  You also need to get under the car now and from time to time and see if there are any obvious leaks; some fixes are relatively cheap and easy, and some aren’t.

Please put a summary of your question in the title, rather than just the car model. Thanks.

Very . Scotty has made several videos about it.

Please check Scotty's video reviews at the bottom of the main page.

Those are extremely crappy, unfortunately. All you can do now is baby the thing to try getting some life out of it and treat this a learning experience .
