Hey Scotty I’m 20 years old and my mom wants to sell me her 2014 Kia Sorento LX it has 107,000 miles , she got it with 5 miles on it , she wants to sell me it for $3,000  ,she took it to her mechanic and they said it’s burning oil and can be a head gasket , so then she brought it over to Kia and they said that’s normal for a car that age with that mileage and it should be fine , idk if it’s the piston rings or really the head gasket and I don’t wanna buy it from her and the engine goes .

If properly designed(engineered)/assembled and taken care of then it is not normal for a vehicle with that mileage to do that - it just shows the poor quality of Hyundai.  I would politely refuse the car from your mother - you don’t want to inherit a problematic car that will cost you.

Inheriting is one thing, here he is being asked to pay $3000 for this pile of junk..

She's selling you a defective vehicle & it's probably not even the head gasket. There is a lawsuit against Kia for that vehicle because it has a defective engine.

2011–2018 and certain 2019 Kia Optima, 2012–2018 and certain 2019 Kia Sorento, and 2011–2018 and certain 2019 Kia Sportage vehicles suffer from a defect that can cause engine seizure, stalling, engine failure, and engine fire, that engine seizure or stalling can be dangerous if experienced, and that some owners and lessees have been improperly denied repairs under the vehicle’s warranty.

Scotty has some specific words, today, about how Kia dealers LIE! See today's video, from the 7:42 mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk7aqw4a7_k

Don't buy this car if you intend to maintain a happy relationship with your mother.

No, it will be a  money pit,  and might even lead to family problems.

The way I’m reading it, your mother wants to get it off her back.

Rather than you getting stuck with it, it might make a nice side project for you to find a buyer for this vehicle & take a commission for the sale, if some Kia aficionado laps up the car for an even higher price.

Whatever you do, don’t let it be your $$$ that gets burnt alight, buying this vehicle..

Wow!! As if young folks don't have enough debt with college/university! She's doing you no favor (son or daughter). With family like that, who needs . . .

3 grand? Expect to be putting double that out of your pocket if you take it.

Thanks but no thanks would be my response.
