THERE IS A HUM LIKE NOISE AT EVERY SHIFT POINT. MORE NOTICABLE AT SLOW IN-TRAFFIC DRIVING. IT MAKES YOU THINK THE TRAN IS SLIPPING SLIGHTLY. NO CODES SHOW. NO DIPSTICK BUT SERVICE SHOP SAYS THE COMPUTER VERIFIES THE TRANS FLUID LEVEL IS OK. WE JUST BOUGHT IT USED AT 85,000 MILES.

The computer's readings are not accurate.
What you want to see is the condition of the fluid - but it's likely to be toast.
I'd consider selling it on.
Otherwise perform a fluid replacement (yes it is possible and quite easy) which may help, or may cause it to begin developing even worse behavior - so either it helps, or else you'll still are going to have to replace the tranny (with a cheap junkyard one).
