Engine thermostat

Purchased a used truck about 3-weeks ago as is and with rebuilt title. 2019 Chevy Colorado crew cab Z71 3.6L V6.

purchased from a “reputable” used car dealer.  Code indicated thermostat. Upon preparation to install new OEM housing with thermostat. As I removed old housing, to my surprise there was no thermostat.  Dumbfounded I noted sealant was used in conjunction with gasket on all fittings.

I was under the impression no sealant is needed with gaskets for thermostat, is this true?

I am upset since I discovered no thermostat and obviously was reason for no cabin heat, which is the result of a stuck open thermostat but in this case, no thermostat.

Looks like yours is an integrated unit with housing, thermostat, and o-ring gasket

no sealant needed.

You named it: a reputable dealer.

Two things you can do:

s###t the dealer, but when doing so, you will not need a car/truck for the next 20 years = not advisable.

mount a new o.e.m.  housing with the right thermostat. Using a tad of gasketmaking sealant with the o.e.m. gasket will do no harm.

You could ask the dealer to do this for free, but you will not trust that scammer any more (I wouldn't either).
