  • Hi, my 2015 Hyundai santa fe sport has the engine light on. 68,000 miles. I had it analyzed and got two codes, P0449 and P0451. The dealer wants $2100 to replace evap items, charcoal can, vent valve. Any advise?

Any advise?

Don't take an 11-year-old out-of-warranty vehicle to the dealer for service. Have a good independent mechanic (not a chain shop) check it out.

@chucktobias thanks for the advise. I have it scheduled to go into an independent mechanic this week.

it's a Hyundai dealer, so they're just throwing parts at the problem and crossing their fingers it'll work.

@imperator so true, I made a bad decision going there.

Codes and EVAP leaks themselves can be as simple as a loose/bad gas cap. A dealer could replace it and then charge you for a bunch of unneeded parts. Do as @chucktobias suggest, take it to an independent mechanic. The dealerships primary goal is to make money.

@hixster I have scheduled it with an independent. I should have come here sooner.
