My brother got a Hyundai Elantra 2015 with 230K km. He bought it when it had 100K km from a dealer. Changed the fluid three times @ 100k, 160k, and 220k km. After changing it the third time, the MIL light turned on with a P0731 Gear 1 incorrect ratio.
The car would start on the 1st gear as it starts rolling, it slips when rpm starts rising and act as if it is in Neutral then right away goes to limp mode. Turning the car off and on would take away the limp mode.
However, the car runs perfectly when driving it in Manual mode if you start it from 2nd gear. Even putting it back to auto mode. it upshifts and downshifts with no issues. The problem is only when it goes to 1st gear.
Are the clutches bad or a solenoid problem?
Thank you.
It’s best you visited a specialist transmission shop for this as it may require thorough hands on diagnosis, with a fancy scan tool.
Also, at that mileage is when Hyundai/Kia products usually tend to start falling apart, so keep your (his) options open.
