I bout a used 2015 Ford f150 king ranch from a dealer at a price I could afford. With mileage that high there is no warranty. I know King ranches bring stupid money. It has 220K 3.5 twin turbo Ecobost. Everything works great no dents or rust. Very well maintained. I had it looked at, at a ford specialty shop and they told me the carbon buildup is so bad that they tried to decarbonizeing it twice and that they couldn’t get it out. They told me that the next step was to replace the engine. They said I could buy a creat motor from Ford which is drop in and go cause it has everything already on it for 10k. Is it true about the carbon? If so is it true about the motor, and is there a cheaper way of doing this? Or is it worth putting that much money into it? Other micanics say absolutely what do you say? The truck looks brand new except for the engine.
As long as it drives fine, and there's no check engine light, don't let them try to sell you the kitchen sink.
I wouldn't have gone with a 3.5 L King Ranch. I would have gotten the lesser V8 model, they're a lot more reliable. The 3.5L only has power, because of the turbocharger and direct injection. My Ford Ranger has a 3.0, and it's a dog. It pulls a compact truck, not a full-size truck. When that turbocharger goes out, it will also be a massive dog.
Please describe the drive-ability problems or symptoms the truck has. Thanks.
Is it true about the carbon?

I can't see anything. Did they show it to you?
You could try the ATS Carbon Clean product that Scotty has recommended. Scotty also did a video featuring a mobile carbon cleaning service, so that might also be something to look into.
