My Highlander has made this steady sometimes intermittent ticking sound at idle for a couple months. No ticking when cold but when its warmed up it can be loud.
Of course Toyota has no clue but to throw parts at it. Have searched the internet and heard the same from posts others have left with no conclusion. Most dealers just replace the motor.
I wish I had that option.
Have no clue what to do. I get nervous driving, hoping it doesn't break down.
Can you help me and others.
Love your channel
Thanks
Jeff
Clarification: can you post a video?
I think one of these, carefully applied, should help you identify the ticking item/system

Thanks for the reply. I have heard of people using that but it is still too hard to isolate where exactly it is coming from. When the advisors say it's a normal sound that's unacceptable.
That makes me think they know but won't say.
