Hi Scotty, I just bought for my wife a 2015 Lexus IS 350 with 20,000 original miles on it. Are these 8 speed automatic transmissions reliable? Thanks

That transmission is the longitudinal Aisin AA81E also used in the MY 2014 Lexus GS350 and MY 2015 RC350.  It has been holding up so far on those models.  Also, this transmission is a derivative of the AA80E first used in 2007 on the Lexus LS (as well as IS F and GS 460) so Toyota/Lexus has been using the 8-speed longitudinal transmission since then and has refined it over time without radical changes.

Also, be sure to stay on top of your ATF change intervals and don’t drive like a maniac  and it should last.  See our ATF sticky here:

Yes, those are excellent transmissions. Those Lexus IS350s are great sport sedans! You bought a really nice car.

Thanks

Toyota usually has problems with the first year of every 8 speed automatic they produce, this one put in the IS in 2014. You should be fine if you take care of it.

If you want to do your own research this is the transmission

Thanks
