Scotty I just bought a 2015 Ford Taurus 3.5 with 53k mikes. I really like this car. I read they have expensive internal water pumps that can ruin an engine if they leak. A Ford tech said I should replace the water pump and timing chain at 60k just to be safe. Another Ford tech said not to worry about it because “it will throw a coolant code before it does any damage”. Who’s right?
Thanks!
Keep in mind just to replace the water pump (even if the rest of the engine is fine) is a partial engine out job, and can cost thousands of dollars. Really a stupid design by Ford, and also screams of planned obsolesce to get you to buy another product from them.
I was aware of this potential issue but really love this car and I wanted a bigger American sedan. My only real option as GM and Dodge products are mostly garbage with a few exceptions.
Well generally they do have problems if they do start wearing they'll throw a cold cuz the timing it gets off or if you hear it rattling inside you need to change it with that low mileage that's kind of ridiculous to change it that early and ask them how much it cost to replace it's a very expensive job you wouldn't want to do it if you don't have to
Thank you Scotty I really appreciate your time. 👍
