Mercedes dying out

I have a salvaged title 2013 mercedes c300 4matic with 100k miles. It is salvaged due to only superficial body exterior damage, nothing mechanical. It leaks and burns oil slightly, and has a check engine light for an O2 sensor. A few times over the years, on a long drive, the engine would slowly die out on the highway and not start back up for about 20min. After that time elapses, it starts. From the research I did online, it may have something to do with the fuel pump. Otherwise, it runs and drive perfect and smooth. Should I just keep driving it till it falls apart or should I sell it? I don't want to spend anymore money on it. Thanks Scotty

It is your call. See how much you can get for that, if you are happy with offers, sell it.

You would want to attach some scanner and read the codes. Engine turning itself off and not starting for a while can have very different reasons. The good thing is, such severe problems normally do generate easy to understand codes. Even a 10 usd bluetooth scanner would read most of them. Just out of my experience with my own cars, reasons foe such dieouts may be: crankshaft position sensor, fuel pump, intermittent electrical short on the positive battery terminal.

The fuel pump: next time the engine dies out and refuses to start, just hit the fuel tank with a hammer a couple of times. If right after that the engine does start, just replace the pump. Ive done it myself on my Benz and it was not super-hard.
