2016 Acura TLX 3.5 V6 NY Inspection Failure

Hi Scotty,

I have 2016 Acura TLX 3.5 V6 base model with 65,000 miles. I recently got an oil change & reset the maintenance light for engine oil using buttons on the steering. A few days later, I took it to an inspection facility & was told that the car has failed the inspection as the none of emission parameters were ready. I was under the impression that the inspection facility was pulling a fast one (I did not change the battery or reset any codes). They asked me to drive 50-80 miles & come back.

After driving 40 miles, I bought a Fox well scanner & checked the I/M readiness & only EVAP was not ready. I checked it the next day with the scan tool; the car was ready for inspection with green check light in all the parameters. I took it into a facility this morning & checked the I/M readiness in the parking lot, to my surprise, EVAP & EGR were not ready (I did not reset anything). What could be the problem & possible solution, please help !!

Thank you,

Santosh Vangaveti.

It needs to go through a drive cycle. This usually happens when the battery gets disconnected.

What’s a drive cycle? The cars needs to be driven a different speeds and durations, so the car can do all of its emissions tests. Usually we think nothing of it, because we drive around all the time, and all that driving gets the car to do the tests eventually. But when the car battery gets disconnected, or something gets reset, it is starting from nothing. So it takes a little more for the emissions to be ready.

here is an example drive cycle. Not sure it will be the same for your car or not.
