2016 Camry oil consumption

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2016 Camry SE with about 170 K. Ive owned it since it had 100 K and change the oil every 5 K. I started noticing several months about my oil levels being a quart or sometimes close to two low between changes. Recently, within a 4 K interval of had to add close to 3 quarts. Ive heard Toyota engines are known to burn oil as they get higher mileage. I also know they have issues with vvti issues as well.. I did have the vvti filter cleaned when I had my plugs changed last fall. Any advice and such would be appreciated.  Thanks.

You failed to mention what kind of engine is in that car. Is it turbocharged? If so, the turbo consumes a little oil as it wears out, and a quart over 5,000 miles is about normal for that mileage.

Not that I'm aware of. Toyota had issues with their piston rings not sealing properly in the late-2000s and early 2010s, and Toyota updated a technical service bulletin for most of them if they were under a certain mileage. Toyota offered an extended warranty program in which the required repairs would be on Toyota if the piston rings needed to be replaced.

Check your PCV valve and consider replacing it.
