2016 Dodge Charger sxt…. When I turn on the ac I hear a loud consistent tapping noise from the engine….. not the ac clutch for sure…. Only happens when the car is warmed up but as soon as I turn the ac off it stops…. Any idea as to what it is?
When the AC is turned on the compressor puts a heavy load on the belt drive system. I'd check all the pulleys and accessories to see if any are making noise. It's also possible the compressor is on its way out and making noise. A mechanic's stethescope or even a large screwdriver can help find the source.

If it only happens when ac is on the problem is most likely connected to the components associated with it.
Failing compressor (new doesn't mean good or it will last), idler pulley, belt, water pump, fans, tensioner ect. Do what Chuck said and check everything with a mechanics stethoscope. I have a harbour freight one and it gets the job done, it works well for the price. At first it maybe a little difficult using it since you'll hear a lot of noises and everything becomes amplified. After a few minutes you'll get the hang of it and tell everything apart.
Thanks
As in I got it installed about 3 months ago
