2016 Equinox - ATF Fluid

Hey Scotty!

I have a 2016 Chevy Equinox and it’s time for my preventative maintenance drain and refill 30k mile interval for the ATF fluid. It takes DEXRON VI ATF. The dealer wants $11 a quart for the ACDelco line. Would the Valvoline brand be just as safe?

Thanks!

If it meets Dexron VI specifications, yes. (Any leading brand of transmission fluid that meets Dexron VI specs would be fine.)

Use RockAuto for things like this. The same AC-DELCO fluid the dealer is trying to charge, you can get for $6.45 a quart. That's almost a $5 difference per quart. If your transmission pan has a 7-8 quart capacity, you're saving money, even with the shipping fee.

I personally only go with the manufacturer's original transmission fluid if the fluid is still widely available.

valvoline is around $10 a quart.  Not really a big enough difference.
