Hey Scotty and or community, I have a 2016 Honda Civic LX with the 2.0L engine with 42k miles, I was wondering if its safe to use the Prestone Asian Blue coolant or do I have to use the Honda genuine coolant? The closest honda dealer is 1 hour away and some of my local auto parts store don't carry the honda genuine coolant. Prestone is all I can find.

Thanks.

I've used Prestone in my Honda and never had any issues really. The first time I did it was @ 175k km. Then I do it more often. As long as it's clean stuff in there, it's all good.

Good to know. Unfortunately we don't get the Prestone Asian Vehicles product in South Africa, only the regular one. Nice to hear that it is a viable option in the parts of the world that get it.

My advice is to always use the Honda coolant - they are super fussy about what goes into them.

Is your vehicle due it's coolant change? My Honda Fit only needed its coolant changed after 10 years or 200000Kms. Thereafter it is every 5 years or 100000kms.
