[Solved] 2016 Honda CRV Touring AWD sounds like a race car but it’s just a family SUV
Why does my CRV with 67K miles roar when accelerating to enter freeway. Have had it checked by several mechanics and muffler shops. One told me it is the computer telling the timing to change. Sounds like a race car but just a family SUV.
Just the VTEC system. Nothing to worry about.
Hi, I'm not a car expert by any means, but I think you might be hearing the VTEC system activating.
When under heavy throttle, the system activates to give greater performance. It also makes the engine louder. I drive a 2013 CR-V with this system. As I accelerate aggressively in mine, the rpms will increase and the engine will gradually get louder, not taking into account shifting, then the engine will suddenly get louder once it reaches somewhere in the higher rpms (VTEC activation).
I found a YouTube video of one like yours accelerating. I sounds like the VTEC system is activating around the 10 second mark. Here's the link to it:
Take what I have to say with a grain of salt, but the behavior I described is common for these vehicles, and many other Hondas. That may not be what you're hearing though, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will respond.
