For couple weeks I recently noticed a rattling noise whenever I accelerated. I thought it was the muffler or shield. I took it to a local Firestone to have it inspected and they told me the motor is blown. They found the oil was low (least 3 quarts) and didn't detected any leaks. The filter and plug was on tight. Ive also maintained the oil changes every 4/5 months and the last time it was done was in May.
I took it to another shop and they confirmed the engine is bad. I have 112K miles and didnt not quality for the warranty. The mechanic mentioned how Kia was have a recall because of bad engines but my car didnt qualify for it. I called my dealership and Kia directly and they said the same thing.
the shop is charging me $4700 to intall a used engine with 92K miles on it and I still owe money on the car ($6000)
Im now stuck in a bind. Do I go ahead and have it repaired, wait couple months and trade it in? any suggestions are appreciated.

Why are you getting a used engine when you can get a rebuilt unit with a warranty from ATK or Jasper? You're just going to have the same problems with the used POS engine.
The mechanic suggest I check with jasper to get a rebuilt engine too. I spoke with Jasper and they don't rebuilt engines for Kia's
See about an ATK engine through NAPA.
Advance Auto Parts lists rebuilt KIA/Hyundai engines (#271E) starting at $3792.
Well that escalated quickly..
Besides, 92,000 miles on the replacement engine sounds like it’ll be ready to blow in another 20,000 miles too..
