hey scotty, i recently got myself a 2005 toyota mark x with the 3gr engine, its at 150,000km, ive noticed the gas mileage dropped a lot over the last few days, would it be worth getting my intake cleaned? i would need to get my obd repaired aswell as it isnt communicating with my scan tool, or are their toyota specific scanners? i am thinking the decarbonizing would be cheaper, and if its improves the situation then the obd can wait, its not running rough, one or 2 engine skips which set the abs/vsc/traction control and brake light off, a mechanic mentioned the o2 sensors in them can set the tract light off, i bbeleive it is idling a little high on cold start too (1400rpm in park)
I would start with cleaner ng the MAF sensor and throttle body. Change the engine air filter as well. Regarding the scanner, you don't need special scanner. Do you get power at the OBD port?
yes it gets power, so maybe a faulty pin? i checked the air filter, its looks a little old but still usable, but a good place to start
Check the battery in your scanner.
soooooo...... cleaned the maf and throttle body and threw some intake cleaner through it anyway, little difference so have it booked for a scan at a mechanic, any common sensor failures that cause rich conditions in these engines? and does the cpu need a reflash after replacing a sensor?
The MAF sensor could be faulty. You should check it as well. Also, the injectors might be dirty. About your question: you do not reprogram the ECU after changing the sensors.
