I bought 2016 Kia Sorento, automatic transmission; pre-owned vehicle from birchwood some weeks ago. When I was driving it, the engine light began to flash and a knocking sound could be heard. This morning, kia called me informing me that there was an engine oil leak seen on spark plugs...should I be concerned of this used car since I've been just using it for a week now? Please help as soon as you can....thank you!
Yes I would be concerned. You probably have worn piston rings/other internal components that are failing. Unfortunately it sounds like you bought a bad car. This is why I always recommend a pre-purchase inspection.
And buying a Kia/Hyundai was a dice roll anyway. I'd see if you can return it and start looking for a replacement vehicle.
Those were not the best vehicles and Hyundai/Kia quality has been poor for some time. I would not own that vehicle long term. Usually the original 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty applies to the original owner; I am not sure what warranty (if any) came with the one you purchased. Ideally, if under warranty you would get them to fix it and then just get rid of the thing.
Since you do not have warranty on the powertrain, take the car to an independent mechanic to check to avoid outrageous dealer prices.
With oil burning and knocking most likely the engine is shot. Very common on Kias, unfortunately. Did you get any kind of warranty from the selling dealer?
