I’m going on vacation. I would like to buy a new battery, it’s been in there for 5 years. Do I need to do a reset for the charging system once the new battery is installed?

I don't think so, a friends 2017 Outback had no such need when the battery was replaced. What does your owner's manual say?

I will check it in the am. At least I can get some rest not thinking about it. Scotty has mentioned how the ECM changes the chargeing rate as batteries age.
