2016 Tahoe with 205k miles with a transmission that only shifts the first three gears. Could it be the torque converter or should I change the entire transmission? Rebuilt vs junk yard transmission? Thank you so very much for your advice, my familia are fans!

Your transmission may have internal issues and the top gears are probably gone. Before making any decision, have a pro check it out. If you need to rebuild the transmission, just swap the transmission with another one.

Likely internal to the transmission. As @yaser said, have it checked out by a pro and go from there.
