My 2017 V6 Mustang's check engine light came on either Monday night or Tuesday morning, and the code is P0451. I'm not sure what would have tripped this EVAP code, as it came on when I was getting a bit low on gas. I took the battery cables off the terminals to see if the computer will reset itself.
What could have caused this code to randomly pop up on a low tank of gas? I've had the pump not click off until gas came out of the tank twice, the last time was at least a year ago. That never threw the check engine light, so I assume it didn't get into the charcoal canister. My Mustang just went out of the bumper to bumper warranty on Monday due to age, not mileage. The dealer says Ford will not fix the problem under warranty, unless it is powertrain related, despite it essentially happening on the last day of the bumper to bumper warranty. I just turned 20k on the odometer.
P0451 is usually caused by either a bad EVAP pressure sensor, a clogged fuel tank relief valve, EVAP lines, EVAP wiring, or a bad fuel cap. There can be other causes as well.
I've thought about that. I'm almost willing to bet Ford's silly "capless" fuel filler system is already showing its stupidity. I remember Scotty saying how stupid the concept was a year or two ago.
P0451 is related to the emissions system. I think emissions systems are usually warrantied for longer than the rest of the vehicle.

My girlfriend's 2017 EcoBoost 'Stang has had 3 different EVAP codes in the time she had hers, and my mom's 2018 had the same code a month or two ago. Seems like Ford screwed up something in the EVAP system design if 3 cars are all having the same problems with how new they are. My girlfriend's code today was P1450, which is also something EVAP related.
I’d be writing to Ford if 3 cars in the family all had a similar fault.
On an unrelated note, which car OEM & model is your family’s favourite?
That's a good idea, how would somebody go about writing to Ford about issues like this?
As far as the family's OEM, we're generally Ford owners, and huge Mustang fans. My step dad, my mom, my girlfriend and I all have Mustangs. My girlfriend's older sister drives an EcoSport. My DD beater is a 22 year old Ranger, my step dad uses a newer Escape. If Ford genuinely designed these EVAP systems this poorly, that doesn't say much for the rest of their new product.
Scotty got my attention with that new Camry Sport he reviewed in Houston, lol. I always thought Toyota made bland cars, but that new Camry looks pretty awesome.
